In the Shadows of Darkness: A Soul Searching
My hardships have shaped me, and I believe they will help me become a better life coach—one who can truly understand others through their own tumultuous worlds. I was born into a world that, from the very beginning, didn’t give me the love or care I deserved. As a child, I was abused, neglected, forced to grow up quickly, and assume responsibilities that should never have been mine. My childhood was defined by the absence of nurturing and guidance. Instead of playing or dreaming like other children, I was taking care of my younger sisters, stepping into a role that required me to be more of a parent than a child.
I gave my life to others, often sacrificing my own needs to care for those around me. It became second nature to put others before myself, to be the one who always gave, always served, without ever asking for anything in return. I thought it was my purpose, my way of proving my worth in a world that seemed to forget about me.
Religion, too, played a role in shaping my life. I found myself in the grips of a faith that often felt more like brainwashing than salvation. I was told what to believe, who to trust, and how to behave—but in the end, it left me feeling more isolated and confused. Was I serving because I believed, or because I didn’t know any other way to survive the turmoil that surrounded me?
The years brought more hardship; the pain didn’t stop there. My family was torn apart by alcohol and drug problems. Both my parents passed away at a young age. The very people I had always hoped would be my support system were drowning in their own vices, leaving me to pick up the pieces. Divorce was inevitable—twice over—and each time, it left a scar deeper than the last. The damage was far-reaching, a constant reminder of how broken I am.
As time went on, I found myself facing my own personal battles. Struggles with my health became another heavy burden, one that was both physical and emotional. My body felt like it was betraying me—female reproductive issues made it impossible for me to have children, a dream that had once seemed so natural. I longed for a family, for a sense of purpose that came from creating something new, but that door remained closed.
In my darkest moments, I’ve often felt like I was wandering in a forest, unsure of which way to go, or if I was even on the right path. I’ve questioned who I am, where I belong, and what my purpose is. I’ve asked myself countless times why I keep going, why I keep pushing through the barriers that life throws at me, and why every door seems to close on me.
And yet, I’ve never given up. Despite feeling lost, despite all the pain, I keep searching for meaning. I’ve wondered if there’s something more for me in this life, if maybe my purpose isn’t just to serve others, but to find peace within myself. I’ve always been there for others, but perhaps I’ve never been there for myself—not truly, not in the way I needed.
Through all the hardship, I’ve learned to keep moving forward. I may not have all the answers, and I may still feel like I’m wandering at times, but I know that every day I survive, I am stronger than the day before. And somewhere in the distance, maybe I’ll find what I’ve been searching for—purpose, love, and peace.
